Easter Is Here: Keep Chocolate Away from Your Dog
Easter is a time for sweet treats and family fun, but for dogs, it can be dangerous. With chocolate eggs, bunnies, and cakes everywhere, now’s the time to be extra careful.
Why Chocolate Is Toxic for Dogs
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which dogs can’t process like humans can. These compounds build up in their system and can affect the heart, nervous system, and kidneys.
Even small amounts can cause:
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Hyperactivity or tremors
- Increased heart rate
- Seizures
- In severe cases: coma or death
The Darker the Chocolate, the Greater the Risk
- Milk chocolate = moderate risk
- Dark chocolate & baking chocolate = extremely toxic
Just a small piece can be life-threatening, especially for small dogs.
