7 Alternatives to Dog Walks – One for Each Day of the Week!
MONDAY: Snuffle Station
Use a snuffle mat, rolled-up towel, or a cardboard box filled with paper to hide treats or kibble. Sniffing and foraging taps into your dog’s natural instincts and is mentally exhausting, in a good way! I love using some Freeze Dried Raw Chicken formula for this game and my Dog!
TUESDAY: Frozen Treat Time
Make pup-sicles using natural yoghurt, mashed banana, or goats milk. Freeze them in silicone moulds, licki mats or stuff a Kong and pop it in the freezer. Keeps them cool and entertained.
WEDNESDAY: Indoor Obstacle Course
Set up a mini course using cushions, chairs, tunnels, or broom handles. Lead your dog through it using treats and encouragement. Great for confidence building and focus!
THURSDAY: Training Games
Short bursts of training indoors or in the shade are perfect on hot days. Try:
- New tricks
- Impulse control (“wait,” “leave it”)
-
Puzzle toys or treat-dispensing games
Mental work tires dogs out just as much as physical exercise.
FRIDAY: Tug or Gentle Play
A short game of tug with a toy or tug is a great way to release energy indoors, but watch for signs your dog is getting too warm and take breaks often.
SATURDAY: Low-Impact Enrichment Chews
Offer a safe, natural chew like rabbit or beef ears, tripe sticks, or fish skins. Chewing provides calming stimulation and can help relieve boredom, especially when it’s too hot for much else.
SUNDAY: Indoor Hide & Seek
Hide behind doors or furniture and call your dog’s name, or hide treats around the home. This is great for building engagement and gets their brain working!
